Edo 2016 Security agencies want Governorship election postponed

There are indications that the Edo Governorship election slated for Saturday, September 10, may be postponed. According to a ChannelsTV report, the Nigeria Police Force and the State Security Service have proposed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, that the election be postponed. It is unclear, at the time of filing this, if the electoral umpire will be buying the proposal. However, recent history shows that once the security agencies ask for a postponement of the vote in Nigeria, that piece of advice is usually heeded. Law enforcement is suing for a postponement on security grounds, according to sources on the ground familiar with the development. The front-runners for the Edo governorship election are Godwin Obaseki of the APC and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the PDP.
